Free hemin results from the breakdown of hemin-containing proteins such as hemoglobin and myoglobin. Hemin level has been used as an indicator of possible pathological conditions when found in the urine or feces. It plays regulatory functions for enzyme activities. The heminin assay kit is a simple, highly sensitive assay to measure hemin levels in various biological samples. In the assay, the pseudoperoxidase activity of hemin converts a colorless, nonfluorescent probe to a strongly colored (λ = 570) and fluorescent (Ex 535, Em 587) compound.
