| Product Description |
Protein translation in eukaryotes involves a complex interaction of multiple initiation and elongation factors that bind to mRNA to facilitate protein synthesis. 4E-Binding Protein 1 (4E-BP1) is a 12.4kDa protein that prevents initiation of mRNA translation by binding to eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF) 4E, thereby blocking its association with the 5’ cap structure present on mRNA. Phosphorylation of 4E-BP1 at several key residues reduces its affinity for eIF4E. 4E-BP1 is an effector of mTOR signalling, which plays a key role in obesity and insulin resistance. The 4E-BP1 Human (phospho-Thr37/46) EIA Kit is an immunometric (i.e., sandwich) EIA designed to accurately detect human 4E-BP1 in cell culture lysates only when phosphorylated at both Thr37 and Thr46. It is highly specific for human 4E-BP1 and will not work with rat or murine lysates. When used in conjunction with the 4E-BP1 Total (human) EIA Kit (Prod. No. CAY-10011212) levels of phosphorylated 4E-BP1 can be normalized relative to total levels of 4E-BP1 in various cellular conditions. |
