 | | | General Information | | Adiponectin, also known as ACRP30 (30kDa adipocyte complement-related protein) is a hormone synthesized and secreted by adipocytes. Expression and plasma levels of adiponectin are decreased in insulin resistance and obesity and synthesis of this adipokine increases when insulin sensitivity is improved and weight is lost. Adiponectin consists of a carboxyl-terminal globular domain and an amino-terminal collagen-like domain containing 22 Gly-X-Y repeats. The presence of a small amount of a carboxyl-terminal fragment containing the globular domain of adiponectin (gAdiponectin) has been demonstrated in human serum by immunoprecipitation. Adiponectin and gAdiponectin act in the brain to increase energy expenditure and to decrease body weight. | Background/Technical Information | | FLAG is a registered trademark of Sigma-Aldrich Co. | | | | GENERAL LITERATURE REFERENCES |
